CHENNAI: Tamil Maanila Congress leader GK Vasan on Tuesday said people should accept the Karnataka High Court verdict acquitting AIADMK supremo, J Jayalalithaa and added that his party would join an alliance people wish for.

Differing with the views of other opposition parties like the DMK, DMDK and Left parties who were critical of the High Court judgment, he told media persons that people should accept the law as India is a country respecting law.
TMC will fight on people’s issues against the Central and State governments and a decision on alliance would be taken only at the election time, he said.

Vasan said his party’s stand was to expose the true situation and it was doing it from its inception. There was no need to attack anyone individually since the party did not believe that it would bring a vote bank to it. The TMC leader also said the Centre should not be in a hurry to pass the amended Land Acquisition Bill as it was affecting the farmers. He opposed the new law on deep borewells making it mandatory for farmers to get permission from the panchayat union and Collector’s office after paying due charges to them.

The law had been passed when the farmers were in the grip of drought and it would add to their burden. The government should ensure adequate safety measures to prevent the falling of children into the borewells, he added.
The State office-bearers of the party would be nominated at the month of May. A fortnight after the State office-bearers meeting, the list of district functionaries would be released, Vasan said. The TMC leader would undertake a State-wide tour till the election dates were announced, he added.
